What is Christmas Really About?
"The Big Man is coming,
Dressed all in bright red,
A sleigh full of dreams,
For those asleep in their bed.
Rudolph is leading,
The route is well known,
Lots of excitement,
Even when we are grown.
The snow settles gently,
The sleigh graces down,
The dreams are delivered,
Now off to the next town.

Each stop has a carrot,
And a tasty mince pie,
A simple, festive thank you,
To the workers from on high.
With a sleigh nice and empty,
It's home that we fly,
Ho, ho, ho, Happy Christmas,
Through the beautiful northern sky."

It's a lovely thought of gifts given, dreams fulfilled, magical Santa, exciting reindeer, gentle snow and so much more. Christmas, for those who celebrate it, can be wonderful.
But as lovely as it is to focus on these things, if we focus on only these things, we miss the real Christmas. There is more to Christmas than just the big man; there is a small baby, a manger, a young couple, animals, shepherds, a star, wise men and gifts.
From these humble beginnings, this baby has changed the world.
But who is the baby? Many of us know his name, Jesus, but who is he? He is the Saviour. Jesus was also called Immanuel, which means "God with us". God has come into the world!
Can a baby change the world? Yes, if that baby is God.
Jesus, the baby at the heart of Christmas, was a baby born with a purpose,

"She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." — Matthew chapter 1 verse 21 (NIVUK)
But how would he do this? By dying on the cross over thirty years later, taking the punishment for sins and promising forgiveness for all who trust and follow him. This is the message of Easter.
Christmas is beautiful as it shows us God's love in the gift of Jesus. Easter is beautiful (even in the midst of all its pain) as it shows us God's love in the gift of forgiveness.
Have you responded to God's love shown to you at Christmas and Easter?
Trust in Jesus today and enjoy a new life in him.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." — John chapter 3 verse 16 (NIVUK)
